The Saturnalia
Every year during the winter solstice the people of Nemeia come together to honor the God Saturn. Everyone far and wide celebrate by decorating, feasting, and sharing gifts with family and friends. During this time of year, the Caesar hosts an annual advent, spreading joy to everyone who participates.
Starting December 1st until January 1st, players may participate in this December-long event.
───── Annual Advent Calendar ─────
The Advent Calendar ends December 25th
|
── All players new and old may participate in the Advent Calendar
── Advent day 1 can be entered all month long. Everyone who comments on day 1 is automatically entered into the entire advent Event. ── Do not enter the advent on multiple accounts. Players found cheating will be banned indefinitely from participating in the group. ── Winners for each day will be rolled every night (usually around 7 - 9 pm CST), and will be announced on our group discord. |
───── Wishing Lantern ─────
This year, the Caesar unveils a brand new tradition. On the eve of Christmas day, citizens will gather beneath the winter sky to release glowing paper wishing lanterns, each one crafted by hand and carrying a personal hope into the night.
|
── Players may only submit one (1) lantern design with a provided (optional) wish. You're free to make more if you'd like, but you may only submit one entry. ── You may draw anything you wish on your lantern, provided it is PG-13 and does not contain any graphic language or imagery. ── All entries are guaranteed to receive a prize. If you are lucky, you may even receive what you wish for. ── Entries will be rolled after December 25th |
───── The Imperial Ice Toss ─────
During Saturnalia, Athens erupts into sanctioned chaos, overturning rules and poking fun at authority. This year’s most anticipated event is announced with great fanfare: the Caesar has agreed to be the official target in the citywide snowball challenge. Citizens cheer, children shriek with excitement, and even the guards seem unsure whether to laugh or brace for impact. The Caesar stands proudly atop a decorated platform in the city square, wearing extra layers of fur and armor for “protection,” though everyone suspects he’s enjoying the spectacle far more than he admits. At his feet sits a giant bronze gong—hit it with a snowball and the crowd roars your name. Hit the Caesar himself, and you earn glory for the rest of the festival!
|
── Players may "throw" snowballs at the Caesar to earn tickets towards a special group goal raffle. All participants who help to reach each group goal will receive the unlocked prizes, regardless of their contribution. ── Snowballs must be redeemed in your vault before you may throw them at the Caesar. ── (Optional) Entries that include a 900 word story or a drawing (full body with a background) about your Nemeion throwing snowballs at the Caesar add +10 snowballs onto your entry total. |

❄️Collaboration and commissioning pieces is allowed!
❄️ You may repeat all of the prompts as many times as you would like. Additionally, there is no daily cap. You may submit entries freely throughout the entire event.
❄️ We are not accepting diptych entries. All entries must be singular images or pieces of literature.
❄️ Up to three (3) Nemeion may be rolled in each entry. Others may be included, but only three can be rolled for rewards.

Artwork Guidelines
❄️ All Nemeion depicted must be full-body, colored, and at least 75% visible to count for rewards.

❄️ Images must be a minimum of 300 x 300 px to qualify.
❄️ Black and white images are allowed as long as they are clean, shaded, and all Nemeion and elements are well defined.
Literature Guidelines
❄️ Literature must be a minimum of 900 words. Collaborated entries must be 1400 words with equal parts between collaborators. Nemeion must be on task and mentioned often to qualify.
❄️ Literature should be fluid and not completely comprised of nothing but dialogue.
❄️ Additional "parts" (part 1, part 2, etc) entries are okay, provided each part of the story has a clear beginning and end.
Prompt 1: Decorating the Sacred Tree
A colossal evergreen appears in the center of Athens overnight, its trunk etched with runic spirals that glow faintly gold. Priests claim Saturn planted the tree there as a symbol of rebirth and abundance, though whether that is true or not remains a mystery. Depict your Nemeion joining the community in decorating the Saturn Tree with hand-carved charms, fruit bundles, glowing crystals, and garlands. What decorations do they add to the tree?
Prompt 2: Cozy Winter Contests
Massive public hearths have been lit in Saturn’s honor, and citizens have decided to compete in joyful, friendly games: gift-wrapping competitions, story-swapping duels, sweetbread baking, snow sculpture contests, and even “ugly tunic” parades. Depict your Nemeion participating in these contests. Which competition do they enter? How do they participate?
Prompt 3: Winter Warzone
Winter settles over Athens in thick, sparkling drifts, and the city transforms into a playground of white. During Saturnalia, tradition demands at least one grand snowball fight between friends, rivals, and anyone brave enough to join the chaos. The gods themselves are said to watch, amused, and occasionally “assist” with a mischievous gust of wind or a perfectly-aimed flurry. Depict your Nemeion participating in a grand snowball skirmish, where the streets have been sectioned off into playful “battle zones” with snow forts, barricades of evergreen branches, and glowing lanterns marking the edges. Do they win the fight, or are they left buried beneath a pile of snow?
Prompt 4: Parcels and Pandemonium
The courier service has been completely overwhelmed, their satchels overflowing with Saturnalia packages that need to reach eager recipients before the night’s festivities reach their peak. Your Nemeion has been recruited to help deliver these brightly wrapped gifts throughout the bustling city. They must weave through crowded markets, dodge playful children launching snowballs, outpace mischievous spirits who try to snatch ribbons, and steady themselves against sudden magical gusts that whirl down narrow alleys. Some stops are warm and welcoming, while others strangely quiet, and a few deliveries seem to shift or disappear as if touched by unseen hands. Depict your Nemeion racing through Athens with an armful of Saturnalia parcels, ensuring each one reaches the correct doorstep amid the holiday chaos. Do they complete their route with flawless efficiency, or do they end the day buried beneath a mountain of undelivered gifts?
Prompt 5: A Wounded Reindeer’s Plea
As your Nemeion steps away from the lively Saturnalia crowds—perhaps to catch their breath or follow a faint rustle in the trees—they stumble upon a quiet, unexpected sight. A reindeer lies partially hidden beneath an evergreen bough, its breath shallow, its flanks trembling. Frost clings to its fur like starlight, and one antler glimmers faintly with an otherworldly sheen. The creature tries to rise when approached, but its legs falter. Depict your Nemeion discovering the wounded reindeer and deciding how to help. Do they soothe it with gentle words? Free it from its bindings? Seek help from the healers, or attempt the rescue themselves? And when the creature finally stands, does it flee into the night… or does it leave behind an unexpected gift?
