───── Guidelines ─────

All guidelines provided below are enforced in every area of the group unless otherwise specified.

── Global Art Rules ──

─ Elements may not be copied and reused in other images. Brushes are allowed as long as they are not used in excess.

─ Nemeion should look like Nemeion (large lions or large felines) unless they have a Feathered Fool companion. We take art style into consideration, but overall Nemeion should look like a big cat.

─
Mouths, eyes, tusks, noses, mutations, blessings, and body modifications (fur variants) will be required to be present on your cat at all times.

─ Accessories like horns, spikes, fur that has been modified by an ivory comb, or other additions that look like they are part of the nemeion must be included at all times. Decorations like clothing and jewelry however does not need to be drawn, as it is not considered "part" of the nemeion, and is therefore optional.

─ Black and white images are allowed as long as they are clean, shaded, and all Nemeion and elements are well defined. Black and white images require a little bit more effort than normal images since they lack color to define each piece.

─ Stock photos may be referenced, however please make sure to credit the stock.

─ Free-to-use lineart or free-to-use bases made by other artists may be used for EXP, however they may not be used for activity entries. Please make sure to credit the original artist as well.

─ Images must look visually different from each entry. Images that are too similar will be sent to corrections.

─ Objects in your image should look like the object they are representing in some way. Blobs are no longer considered acceptable for objects like trees, bushes, or other similar items.

─ AI generated works are strictly prohibited. Users found using AI generated artwork in their entries will be punished accordingly.

── Global Literature Rules ──

─ You may not re-use large chunks of literature from other entries. You also may not plagiarize any written material from other players, books, or other sources.

─ All characters receiving rewards must be mentioned fluidly throughout the piece to qualify. A lion who enters the scene 2/3 through the story or later will likely not qualify for rewards.

─ Additional "parts" (part 1, part 2, etc) entries are okay, provided each part of the story has a clear beginning and end.

─ Literature should be fluid and not completely comprised of nothing but dialogue.

─ All characters must be mentioned at least three times by name or nickname to qualify for rewards.

─ AI generated works are strictly prohibited. Users found using AI generated literature in their entries will be punished accordingly.

───── What are Simple Activities? ─────

Simple activities include: Beast Hunting, Expeditions, Foraging, Fishing, Caving, Crusades, Taming, Munera & Parvum (Colosseum PvE), and Vindictam (Colosseum PvP). Occasionally, events will also have sections for Simple Activities, which will be labelled on their page.

───── What does simple look like? ─────

Simple artwork has 3 to 4 unique elements with minimal to no shading. They are usually flat with very little visual depth. Simple backgrounds usually only have a small color palette, as seen in the images below.

─
All characters, assets, objects, and surfaces are mostly flat, or have very minimal shading. At a glance you can tell what every object is, but shading is virtually nonexistent or very small.

─ Characters may optionally have shading, though it is not required for Simple complexity. To qualify for complex, every asset and character must be shaded.

───── What about Simple Literature? ─────

─ Simple literature must be a minimum of 900 words. Collaborated entries must be 1400 words with equal parts between collaborators.

─ Nemeion must be on task and mentioned often, at least 3 times by name or nickname, to qualify.

─ Literature should be fluid and not completely comprised of nothing but dialogue.

─ Additional "parts" (part 1, part 2, etc) entries are okay, provided each part of the story has a clear beginning and end.

───── What are Complex Activities? ─────

Complex activities include: Conquests, Protathlitís (Champion Battles), Training, and Ranking. Occasionally, events will also have sections for Complex Activities, which will be labelled on their page.

───── What does complex look like? ─────

Complex artwork has 3 to 4 unique elements with shading. These backgrounds have a lot of visual depth, and look like a lot more time was taken to create them. Below are a few examples of what a complex background should look like.

─ All characters, assets, objects, and surfaces should be shaded and rendered. Every piece should look like care and time was taken to create it. If shading looks splashed on and unrefined, it will be considered hastily done and sent to corrections.

─ Cell shading or vector shading is allowed but it needs to have several layers to it, and not have large open areas of space. Be careful when using vector style art when trying to make complex entries, as they need a little bit more detail to be considered complex.

───── What about Complex Literature? ─────

─ Complex literature must be a minimum of 1200 words. Collaborated entries must be 1500 words with equal parts between collaborators.

───── Understanding Simple vs. Complex ─────

Picture
Elements have been highlighted in white.

Simple Backgrounds

─ Images must be a minimum of 500 x 500 pixels and have 3 - 4 unique elements.
─ 75% of your character must be visible.
─ Shading is not a requirement
─ Images must look visually different. Images that are too similar will be sent to corrections
─ Objects in your image should look like the object they are representing in some way. Blobs are no longer considered acceptable for objects like trees, bushes, or other similar items.

Complex Backgrounds

─ Images must be a minimum of 500 x 500 pixels and have 3 - 4 unique elements.
─ 75% of your character must be visible.
─ Shading is required on every object, environment piece, and character.

─ Images must look visually different. Images that are too similar will be sent to corrections
─ Objects in your image should look like the object they are representing in some way. Blobs are no longer considered acceptable for objects like trees, bushes, or other similar items.

How to Make an Image Complex

As long as your image is 500 x 500 pixels in size and has 3 - 4 unique elements, the only thing that separates simple from complex is shading. Below you will see an example of this. You will notice that the image is exactly the same on both sides, and that the only thing separating the two of them is that one side is shaded and the other is not. Simple is always flat with little to no shading, and complex has shading and depth.

───── Percent Visibility ─────

When "75% of your character must be visible" is mentioned, this is usually the rule we follow when determining if a character qualifies for rewards. As you can see by the depiction below, we consider from head to hip approximately 75% of the character. Keep in mind that this varies based on pose and perspective.

───── Elements ─────

Elements are broken down into what we call "categories". For an image to be considered passable, it must include 3 - 4 unique elements. These elements can range from anything to rocks, bones, trees, and even clouds. You will find a comprehensive list of what is applicable below.

───── What are Elements? ─────

Elements are objects like rocks and trees that help give the image depth and make it feel more real instead of flat. Acceptable forms of elements include things like: Rocks, trees, flowers, logs, bones, twigs, bugs, buildings, bushes, fences, mountains, statues, waterfalls, flags, barrels, kelp, rivers, and more.

Element Rules & Guidelines

─ All images regardless if they are simple or complex should have 3 to 4 unique element categories. Adding four rocks to an image that only has ground and sky would not be considered passable. In order to make the image passable, you would need to include something like rocks and two to three other types of objects, such as trees, a fence, and bushes.

─ Elements should look like the object they are representing. Blobs, random triangles, and circles are no longer applicable in backgrounds. If we can't tell what your object is at a glance, then it is not considered passable.

Element Breakdown

Let's break down each image to better understand what is acceptable when it comes to elements. All of these backgrounds would be considered "simple" in complexity due to their lack of shading and overall depth.
Picture
─ Image 1: This image is not acceptable because there are only two elements in the image (the trees and mountains), and the elements are very blob-like and unrefined. These forms of trees are not acceptable.

─ Image 2: This image is not acceptable because, while there are technically three elements (mountains, rocks, and trees), the rocks and trees are still considered blob-like and unrefined. These forms of trees are not acceptable.

─ Image 3: This image is acceptable, and would be considered the absolute minimum. There are four elements in total (mountain, clouds, trees, rocks), and all of the elements are shaped like the object they represent.

─ Image 4: This image is not acceptable because there are only two elements (fence and "mountains"), and the elements are very blob-like and unrefined. While it is obvious this is a fence, this background is clearly too hastily done and needs more refinement.

─ Image 5: This element is not acceptable because, while there are technically four elements (clouds, "mountains", fence, rocks), the clouds, mountains, and rocks are too blob-like and unrefined. The fence is now passable, but the rest of the image needs to be further fleshed out.

─ Image 6: This image is acceptable, and would be considered the absolute minimum. There are four elements in total (clouds, "mountains", fence, rocks), and all of the elements are shaped like the object they represent.
